Compositing

This image was made with the combination of many selection tools. I used a combination of the magic wand tool and the magnetic tool for the edges. I also uses the lasso tool to get rid of small dots which were left behind by the magic wand tool. I also made the images smaller or larger and then rotated them to make them fit the way I wanted them. I made sure I constrained the proportion when I was changing the scale so the images would not get stretched or squished.

Selection Tools

Tools

Rectangular Selection

The rectangular selection tools only selects pieces in rectangular shape. If for some reason you wanted to select in a circular form, you will not be able to do it with this tool.

Elliptical Selection

The elliptical selection tool does selection in the shape of circles. So if you wanted to do a straight selection like a line, you wont be able to do it with this tool.

Lasso Selection Tool

The lasso selection tool is most useful for when you want to do a free selection. The only problem with this tool is that we have human hands and it is very easy for us to make mistakes.

Polygon Lasso Tool

The polygon Lasso tool is used for free selection but it is more straight than the normal lasso tool as this tool only selects in straight lines.

Magnetic Lasso Tool

The magnetic lasso is used by setting an anchor in one point and then the tool finds the pixel boundaries and sets multiple anchors so it know the edges of an image.

Magic Wand Tool

The magic wand tool uses color to see what selection is going to make. It selects from similar colors, if there is a big part with similar color it will select all of that part.

Semiotics Logo

Discussion

The Apple Logo

The Logo for the Apple corporation is a pretty plain logo as it usually only has 2 colors. The logo is usually a black apple with the background grey or grey apple with the background white. The apple logo is recognizable because it has a bite out of the right side of the apple. The Apple corporation is mostly know for the Mac computers and the iPhones.

Origin of the symbol

There was many symbols before this one and the I think they will eventually change this one. There is a different color symbol for Apple which is a more chromatic type of symbol but this one is the one that is most seen today.
This symbol was redesigned in 1999 and it is still used today.

Meaning

The meaning behind the apple logo is just that Steve Jobs one of the founder for Apple used to work in a farm in Oregon and that is where he got the idea. The bite in the apple was just so people did not confuse is with a cherry.

Semiotic

I think that this symbol fits in two categories of semiotics, I think that it fits in Iconic and Symbolic.
The reason that I think that it is Iconic because the icon is a literal apple and you would easily identify it, but the reason it could be symbolic is because when you go to the Apple store you don't go to buy apples from the tree.

Semiotics

The meaning of Semiotics

Semiotics can be define in the simplest of ways as the science of signs.  There are three categories to semiotics, one is Iconic, Indexical, and the other is Symbolic.

Defining the 3 categories

Iconic:

The iconic category in Semiotics is something that looks like what it represents. It can mean like the symbol for death because the symbol of death is a skull and bones and that is what happens when you are dead after a while.

Indexical:

The Indexical category in Semiotics is the causal effect, also explained as something that is caused by something else. An example would be the symbol for smoke because smoke is that is caused by fire, and also another example for fire would be the ashes as that is what is left after the fire is out.

Symbolic:

The Symbolic category in Semiotics is a symbol that has to be learned and that it does not really look like what is representing. An example for symbolic would be the radiation sign or the bio hazard sign, radiation or a bio hazard does not really look like anything in specific but we have learned those signs and we know that they mean danger.

This is the symbol that is the front door of the mens restroom and I think it fits in the category of symbolic Semiotics. I think that it is symbolic because that room is not where you go to find a bunch of men just standing there. We have to learn that the symbol for the male signifies that it is the mens restroom because you can't put a symbol of a men literally using a restroom.
